Chemical immobilisation and capture of both wild and captive giraffes are one of the most challenging fields of veterinary anaesthesia. Due to unique anatomy and physiology, large size and cumbersome shape, the risk of mortality of immobilised giraffe can rise to more than 10%. Our 5th webinar will focus on general considerations and basic rules of preparations and techniques of long-term anaesthesia of captive giraffe and capture of free-ranging animals. Different drug-protocols will be discussed and advances for “the art of science” of giraffe anaesthesia will be given.
